Current Valuation Issues for Estate Planners
We are pleased to welcome our speaker, Edward A. Wilusz, ASA, CFA, MBA
speaking about “Current Valuation Issues for Estate Planners.” This presentation will include a discussion of the hot topics in estate and gift tax business valuations. Issues to be discussed include: liquidity options for the closely-held business owner; preparing for the sale of a closely-held business, discounts for lack of control and lack of marketability, including the impact of the IRS’ proposed regulations under Section 2704; buy/sell agreements; valuations of: FLPs, LLCs, GPs, undivided interests, Sub S corporations, gas royalty rights, lottery winnings, structured settlements, and options/warrants. Also discussed will be issues that raise red flags with the IRS and how to avoid them.
Edward A. Wilusz, ASA (Accredited Senior Appraiser in discipline of Business Valuation), CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), MBA, is the Managing Director of Value Management Inc., a business valuation and merger & acquisition consulting firm located in Jamison, Pennsylvania. He has been active in this field since 1980. He has conducted, supervised or reviewed more than 6,000 business appraisals and been involved in hundreds of transactions. Ed has testified in court on numerous occasions and has spoken on the topic of business valuations on a national and local level.
He is Past President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers and the Bucks County Estate Planning Council. Ed was on the Valuation Advisory Committee of the ESOP Association for 17 years. He has been retained as an expert witness by the IRS, the City of Philadelphia and the State Attorney General of Pennsylvania.
